Design and Evaluation of Router - Supported and End - to - End MulticastReceiver - Based Scoping

چکیده
| IP multicasting allows a source to deene a mul-ticast group address and receivers can dynamically join and leave this group. Currently the propagation of multicast packets is controlled by two scoping methods: TTL scop-ing and administrative scoping. Both of these approaches require the source to control the scope of the multicast. Receiver-based scoping allows a receiver to place conditions on its multicast join that must be met in order to join successfully and remain a member of the multicast group. Such a scoping mechanism would be useful in environments where the receiver incurs a cost for its membership of the multicast group. We describe two receiver-based scoping approaches: router-supported and end-to-end. The router-supported approach requires state to be maintained in routers while the end-to-end approach uses the multicast traceroute tool and does not require state maintenance by the routers. We evaluate the performance of these approaches in terms of their accuracy, bandwidth overhead and state requirements.

متن کاملDesign, Implementation, and End-to-end Evaluation of a Measurement-based Admission Control Algorithm for Controlled-Load Service
The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is considering the adoption of controlled-load service as a standard for relaxed real-time service on the Internet. The ability of relaxed real-time services to achieve high level of utilization and still provide acceptable quality of service depends crucially on the use of measurement-based admission control (MBAC) algorithms. MBAC algorithms admit ne...

متن کاملSecure Routing Protocol: Affection on MANETs Performance
In mobile ad hoc networks, the absence ofinfrastructure and the consequent absence of authorizationfacilities impede the usual practice of establishing a practicalcriterion to distinguishing nodes as trusted and distrusted.Since all nodes in the MANETs would be used as router inmulti-hop applications, secure routing protocols have vital rulein the security of the network. So evaluating the perf...

Congestion control for IP multicast on the Internet has been one of the main issues that challenge a rapid deployment of IP multicast. In this article, we survey and discuss the most important congestion control schemes for multicast video applications on the Internet. We start with a discussion of the different elements of a multicast congestion control architecture. A congestion control schem...
